What baffles non-poker players is why poker players get addicted to the game. Sometimes, it is not really an issue of addiction but simple entertainment. But of course, in a nutshell, the main reason why people play poker is because of the money. Some people play not only to win but they play because of the thrill that they feel when they are sitting and betting against other poker players. As a game of strategy, poker is accepted by many enthusiasts as a game of psychology and statistics. The game requires mathematical calculations or estimates as to when a person should go into a showdown.

Another challenge that many players experience, which causes them to be addicted in the game, is that they are aware of the improvement in the game that they need to achieve. Aside from strategy, players are also required to show an expected behavior. The game of poker affects a person’s bravado machismo and intellect. A person who manages his anger when losing feels a satisfaction at the way he controls himself during the course of the poker game. Men also cannot accept the weakness shown when they are pressured everytime they are in a losing streak. They want to prove to themselves that they are manly enough to take on the challenge of losing and making a stand for their bad decisions.

In essence, those players who do not seek challenge do not become successful in poker. Many players who only play for kicks in the poker world do not show a series of victory, let alone a feeling of accomplishment from their end. These kinds of poker players want to be told what to do with their cards instead of learning what to do with them. It is like as if they want to be spoon fed instead of learn their own strategies by trial and error.

In general, people who play poker have their own motives. Some people are motivated by the money. Some are motivated by the fun that the poker world has to offer. Some want to play because they are thrilled at winning over other opponents. They feel a satisfaction when they outsmart other people. Some are just simply bored. Whatever the reason is, poker players will never last if there is no interest.
