Online Five Card Stud Poker basics

This type of poker is widely played online. In order to play the game right, there are some basic aspects that one must understand. The game begins when the ante is placed on the table by each player. The amount usually is just a portion of a bet. Two cards are dealt by the dealer, one hole card and one door card, for each player starting on the player at his left side. The player with the lowest card should place his bring-in bet.

Each player, except for the player who made the bring-in, can fold, call or raise at this point of the game. This is the first round of betting. If all the other players choose only to call the bring-in, the player who made the bring-in bet has the only opportunity to check the amount he brought in. The second betting starts when each player is dealt another door card. At this point, each player has two cards showing on the table. They can now have a view and the opportunity to analyze the odds of their own hands as well as their opponents’.

The player with the highest hand begins the next betting round. The highest card value includes all exposed cards, the highest card, a pair and others. If for instance, two hands are of the same value, the next betting will begin with the player at the immediate left of the dealer. The next betting round will start with the player who has the highest hand. This player can check, fold or raise. If he opted to check or fold, the other players may check until a raise is made.

The hole card and four door cards will be revealed. Each player will show their hands, and the last player will start betting. This is the showdown in five card stud poker. The players can also opt to fold without showing their hand. The winner at the end of this round takes home the pot.
